Properties of Addition

Preview

The properties of addition are really easy once you understand them very well. So what are the properties of addition? The properties of addition say that:

1) If two whole numbers are to be added then the sum is to be whole number as well, example:-
3+3=6
9+2=2
0+0=0

2) The sum of two whole numbers will always remain unchanged so the numbers can interchange places, example:-
6+2=8       2+6=8
0+4=4       4+0=4
4+2=6       2+4=6
3+0=3       0+3=3

3) The sum of three whole numbers will always remain the same if the order in which they are grouped is changed, example:-
7+(4+5)  OR  4+(7+5)
(7+5)+4  OR  5+(5+4)

4) If zero is to be added to a number then the sum is the number itself, example:-
7+0=7
0+5=5

Now try some of these and make sure to watch the video on YouTube.
