Introduction

In this lesson, we will learn how we use money in our everyday lives and also how we can multiply money. We will use a word problem and then solve it step by step to learn about multiplication of money. So let's get going!

Shopping Mall

Rosalie and Alice go to the Shopping Mall. Rosalie buys 4 dresses for $29.99 each. Alice buys 5 skirts for 21.50 each. What was Alice and Rosalie's total expense?

29.99 multiplied by 4 dresses:  $119.96
21.50 multiplied by 5 skirts:  $107.50

  $119.96
+$107.50
-----------
  $227.46

That means that Rosalie and Alice's total expense was $227.46!
