Adding and Subtracting Decimals

Preview

Decimals are very easy to do addition and subtraction with because when you get the point it feels like doing simple addition and subtraction. So lets take the two decimal numbers for example 4.32 and 3.12 and add first:

  4.32
+3.12

The first thing you do is forget all about the decimal point and add like this:

  4.32
+3.12
  7 44

Next you have to bring the decimal point straight down like this to get our final answer:

  4.32
+3.12
  7.44

Now let's subtract:

 4.32
-3.12

The first thing you have to do is line up the decimal points but in this case they are already lined up so the next thing you do is forget all about the decimal point and subtract going from right to left like this:

 4.32
-3.12
 1 20

Then you have to bring down the decimal point and that is going to be your final answer:

 4.32
-3.12
 1.20

So adding 4.32 and 3.12 gave us the decimal answer 7.44 and subtracting gave us the answer 1.20.
Now try some of these and make sure to watch the video on YouTube.

Learn How to Add Decimals

Preview

Learning how to add decimals is as easy as 1, 2, 3's. All you need to know is that whenever you are adding decimals, you have to line up the decimal points. For example, if the two numbers are 2.50+25.7, you will line up the decimal points like this:

    2.50
+25.7

Always add zeros in blank spot to make it easier for you to add.

  02.50
+25.70

Now just add and bring down decimal point just as it is!

  02.50
+25.70
  28.20  OR 28.2!

To under this better I suggest you watch the video...and try some of these!
