Dividing Money

Preview

Dividing money may seem complicated but it is really easy once you know how to do it properly. So let's take this problem and solve it step by step like this:

Kathy has $20 and she wants to divide the money into her 4 friends plus herself. How much money will each person receive?

So the first thing you have to do is write this problem in division form like this:
   __4___ = 5x4=20
5/ 20
    20
The quotient is not just a number, it's money, the amount of money each person will receive.
So each person will receive $4.

Subtracting Money

Preview

Subtracting money is pretty much the same thing as adding money, instead you have to solve subtraction word problems. So let's take the word problem:

Lucy has $20 that her mom gave her. She goes to the candy store to buy a sour pop lolly for $1.99. How much money did the store give her back?

The first thing we need to do is write down $20 she had in all in money form and then subtract that by $1.99 like this:

   $20.00
-  $  1.99
------------
   $ 18.01
So the total money the store gave back to Lucy is $18.01.

Now practice this and make sure to watch the video on YouTube.
